Website Visual Design

The visual design of your website has a number of functions:

it should reinforce the message of your site,
it should focus the viewer's attention where you want it focused,
it should reflect your business in a positive light,
and it should look good (though this last one is subjective).

Some people say that the best visual designs are the ones that are invisible. They do their job so well that no one notices them. Visual designs are usually created using Photoshop and other image editing software, and then "sliced" into little pieces to be reassembled within a web page. This slicing and reassembling process is an art in itself, and ensures that your website will look right no matter what browser is used to view it.
